Valley of flowers at sunset

The artwork depicts a typical landscape on the border between Lazio and Tuscany, Italy. Those familiar with these lands know that such views can be seen while traveling along endless roads that skirt and cut through the countryside, as if they were panoramic points created for taking a keepsake photo. The triumph of multicolored flowers in the foreground gives way to a path leading to the middle ground: vast fields of wheat that turn to gold in the central hours of the day. Yet a powerful red sky contrasts them in a surreal way, making it clear that this is a dreamlike image—an artistic reinterpretation of a place that exists only in the artist’s mind.
Everything is tied together by the horizon line in soft shades of green, which lends great balance to the view. The artwork is created with oil paints enriched with natural pigments, glazes of glass colors in the sky, and pieces of pictorial mosaic—also made with stained-glass colors—enclosed by golden leadwork.
