The flowering
The artwork depicts the flowering of lentils in Castelluccio di Norcia, Umbria. The image is dreamlike, a mental reconstruction of the place rather than a faithful one. The multicolored flowers truly exist, as do the bands of color ranging from lilac to orange, white, and deep red which, when seen from afar, appear like a river of color flowing down from the surrounding mountains. Perched on a hill stands the village of Castelluccio di Norcia, with Mount Vettore rising imposingly behind it. A land of rare beauty, deeply scarred by an earthquake that has torn the earth, the village, and its people. But the landscape is rebuilt by the skilled hands of nature, joined by the Umbrian people—strong and determined—who, through the toil of their work, rebuild and contribute to restoring its beauty. This is the artist’s message: humanity must leave beauty as its legacy, never violence or wars that bring destruction. All of this is told beneath a red sky. The artwork is created with oil paints enriched with natural pigments, glazes in the sky made with glass colors, and pieces of pictorial mosaic crafted with stained-glass colors, bordered with golden leadwork.
